Bi Modal Protection (BMP®)
"In order to produce a stockfeed additive one must appreciate that the additive is not a finished product, but simply a component of a finished product, which is the feed itself. If it is not manufactured with this in mind, it may be problematic in the feed in terms of quality, efficacy and safety".
D Pickard, Technical Director, Norfeed, UK, 1995
In the early 1980's the EEC proposed to ban Olaquindox and Carbadox considering the OH&S risks to handlers was simply too great. Dox-al scientists developed a novel approach to premixing which enabled these dangerous substances to comply with the new stringent EEC requirements of 0.1mg/M³ air as an occupational exposure limit (OEL). This unique internationally patented premixing technology has since been applied to an increasing number of feed additives known to be problematic in terms of OH&S, active recovery, stability during pelleting or extrusion, erratic dispersion within the feed mass or to control cross contamination of ingredients such as antibiotics, where sub therapeutic doses have been attributed to powdered or compacted granule medicated feed additive premixes.
Simply, the carrier microgranule, whose size, shape and robustness is designed to be incorporated into feed, is coated with the active principal and wrapped in a micronet of ionic character with surfactants covered under the patent. The resulting microgranule is practically dustless in all parts of the feed chain. It is neither hydrophile nor lipophile and has low resistivity. The benefits of the BMP® technology are now well understood and BMP® is the only feed additive technology approved by the European Union for application to an increasing number of feed additives where the active ingredients pose an OH&S risk. (EU Council Directive 80/1107/EEC).
BMP®
- BMP® lowers dust emission in all parts of the feed chain to practically zero, reducing legal liability for employers. The elimination of dust from medicated feed additives during feed production will eliminate cross contamination. BMP® ensures this serious problem is manageable at both feed mill and on farm in mixing, storage, conveying and feeding equipment. This substantially reduces the potential for residues in meat and offal. It aids in maintaining the integrity of withholding periods and Export Slaughter Intervals.
- BMP® increases stability and active recovery from the feed, saving end users money.
- BMP® increases dispersion of the active medication throughout the feed mass, resulting in more accurate dosing of the target animal.
- BMP® eliminates the potential for sub therapeutic doses and subsequent antibiotic resistance or toxicity due to over dosing.
- BMP® simply reduces the risk, optimises the benefits and allows dosage control by the feed miller or farmer.

Quality assurance with Tracedox®
The NEW generation tracing system for medicated stockfeed additives
AUSTRALIAN PATENT 2008 100408 GRANTED
DECEMBER 2008
In December 2008 Doxal Australia was granted an Australian patent 2008100408 relating to TRACEDOX (or the use of colouring agents for the identification of additives in stockfeed). While our competitors have copied our innovative technology over the past 12 months, the granting of the Australian patent will ensure Dox-al Australia are the only company able to offer this innovative technology. While colouring the product has some benefits it is the use of the Tracedox technology combined with the patented BMP microgranule technology of Doxal feed medications that allows identification in the feed of specific medications.
A serious issue for farmers, integrators and feed millers has been the ability to identify if a feed is medicated without the necessity for costly and time consuming analysis or laboratory equipment. Now, by simply adding water to a feed sample you can tell if it's medicated. Want to check cross contamination? It's a one minute test.
Tracedox® invented by the Dox-al group is a unique identification technology replacing ferrous based micro tracers. While ferrous based micro tracers, which are simply another feed additive, may claim to be able to determine mixing efficiency and cross contamination, it is only the mixing efficiency and cross contamination of the micro tracer it tests for and has little relevance to any therapeutic drug or feed additive. Each feed additive has unique electrostatic, hydrophilic / lipophilic and dust emission properties all of which impact on dispersion, recovery and cross contamination.
Tracedox® is bound inside the coating used on the BMP® treated medicated feed additive micro granules. Being bound inside the coating it offers a far more reliable determination of the mixing efficiency of the actual medicated feed additive or any cross contamination of the feed additive in the following batches, where withdrawal periods or contra indications may be applicable.
Unlike natural carotenoid pigments, Tracedox® tracers are based on food approved synthetic food dyes and are not absorbed by organisms at the recommended inclusion levels. Tracedox® is incorporated into the BMP® microgranule at <0.001%.
The unique and patented preparations allow for quick visual determination of therapeutic doses as well as a simple and easy method for determining levels of carry over in non treated feeds or in transport or storage equipment. It requires no laboratory equipment and may be done by anyone with access to a clear container and water.
As the Tracedox® dye is incorporated into the granules coating it is protected from release until activated with water.
Combined with the patented BMP® microgranule technology, Tracedox® offers the stockfeed manufacturer, premix manufacturer and farmer a level of quality control over medicated feed additives never before available.
Thepax®
Thepax is a prebiotic produced from a strain of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae Var. ellipsoideus. Resistant to gastric acid and fermented in such a way to produce a product that contains a wide range of nutrients, vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, short chain polypeptides and UGF's.
Thepax is inactivated using an internationally patented process in order to avoid further fermentation and this unique process allows the cell to be stabilized in-tact to protect the nutrients from the animal's digestive actions.
As a result only Thepax ensures the nutrients required to maximize the growth of the indigenous lactobacilli arrives intact at intestinal level where they are required.
Thepax has now been successfully used internationally for more than 10 years in the production of more than a billion animals. Thepax has been proven to grow lactobacilli in mono gastric animals more than 5 times greater than live or dried yeasts and most importantly has displayed a unique ability to maintain the populations in comparison to dried or live yeast offering greater results in weight gain, reduction in medication usage. Thepax offers a high return on cost.
Thepax® Biolase
Thepax Biolase is Saccharomyces cerevisiae Var. ellipsoideus with Inulin. Thepax Biolase performs well on pigs because the cell content will activate and benefit the resident microflora in the large intestine almost in the same way that it benefits rumen microflora. While Thepax Biolase offers major benefits in terms of weight gain and increasing FCR's the additional benefits include its ability to reduce the reliance on therapeutic treatments, especially for those related to diseases of the digestive tract in swine.
Thepax® Rumifactor
Thepax Rumifactor, a variation based on Saccharomyces cerevisiae Var. ellipsoideus has been specifically designed for ruminants. Thepax Rumifactor has been proven over 10 years to increase milk production and quality in dairy cows, to increase feed conversion and weight gain in beef cattle and to offer a high return on cost.
Uni Modal Protection (UMP®)
This unique production technology replaces traditional powdered water soluble medications with coated microgranules. Antibiotics and medications such as Amoxycillin, Lincomycin, Tylosin and Tiamulin present substantial risks to handlers from the fine respirable particles. Some of these products are made up of as much as 80% respirable particles. (Respirable particles will pass through the filter of an approved respirator). The coatings which adhere the fine dust to the granule are water soluble and actually assist in the solubility of the active being treated.
UMP®
- UMP® treated feed additives limit handlers' exposure to antibiotic medications.
- UMP® treated products cost no more than traditional powdered actives.

Bio-Tech
Biotechnologically induced innovations are a focus of Dox-al research. Enriched during fermentation now with glutathione, or with S-adenosyl-methionine, or with specific enzymes. The result is the Thepax range, a unique presentation of saccharomyces.
Aqualase® – the performance booster for aquaculture
Rumifactor® – the immunomodulator of the rumen flora for ruminants
Pigfactor® – for sows and piglets, helpful in reducing neonatal pathologies
Thanks to the modifications of the original strains or their re-tailoring, new applications and most promising developments are expected for the years to come. Keeping pace with progress in fermentation, the Bio-Tech program has recently introduced a brand new form of bio-complexed minerals which greatly increases the bio availability.
The new generation Dox-al products are effective, environmentally friendly, safe and cost effective.
Moldane
Moldane is largely supported by the European Community who well understands the sound innovation characteristics. This program represents a totally new approach to the major problem of feedstuff contamination by moulds and bacteria.
Thanks to the determination of a "protection index" for all substances with antimycotic action, using environment data processing and a system of precisely monitoring products at risk, the Moldane program guarantees the feed miller or grain supplier the possibility to know the details of their situation and therefore to predict and treat:
- the loss of feed nutrition
- reduced quality pellets
- equipment contamination
- decrease in product efficiency
- increase of pathologies at farm level
Our approach can ascertain if, when and by how much a product is mould polluted and what kind of treatment is needed.
Research is co-ordinated by Dox-al Italia scientists and studied with Spanish, French and Italian universities. The Moldane program is an innovative step forward in the protection of feed and animals to the problems of mould contamination.
The Moldane program will be introduced into the Australian market during 2007.
